To help spotlight up and coming indie artists we love, we’re reserving a page on our site for a monthly Abatab Artist Residency. For March, we’re proud to have Pearl and the Beard, a fun and fearless trio from New York City. On their residency page, you’ll find a free tab download, along with a free mp3 courtesy of our friends at Family Records. Also, you can watch the band performing underground in the NYC subway via a video shot by the talented folks at Subway Sessions. Next month, we’ll be spotlighting a new album by Jessi Robertson – free tab and mp3. Stay tuned! And as always, we keep all our past free tabs/mp3s on our ‘Free’ page.
It has taken longer than we thought for us to be able to post Wakey!Wakey! tabs (piano/guitar). Please know we’re moving as fast as we can! If you’d like to be notified as soon as they’re posted, please join our mailing list or follow us on Facebook and Twitter. Thank you for your patience!
Through Nov 1st only, come download the MP3 and tab of Lara Ewen‘s new single, “Death Better Take Me Dancing”, for free and exclusively from Abatab. We couldn’t be happier and have even set aside a special page for the occasion: www.abatab.com/laraewen. After Nov 1st, the tab will be discontinued and you’ll be able to purchase the song on CD Baby. So download your free copy today!
About the song, LocalCorrespondents.com says, “Lara Ewen’s upcoming single, ‘Death Better Take Me Dancing’, is a bittersweet look at how we should be spending our final moments. It takes a brave person to broach the subject of death in song, and a remarkable one to set it to an upbeat tune that manages to convey both joy and strength.”
For those of you in New York City, Lara will be having a single release show at Rockwood Music Hall on Saturday, Oct 30 at 7pm.
This month’s free tab and mp3 were a happy accident. Nicholas Gunty began following Abatab on Twitter, and on a lark I checked out his music on his MySpace. I tend to be a bit leery of MySpace because it seems so rare to stumble upon someone great. But it turned out I loved Nicholas’ music from the start, especially this month’s song, “Veronica”. And I have a feeling it’ll be stuck in your head like it was mine. Check it out on our Free page, as always there’s no purchase necessary. Some handy links for Nicholas: MySpace – iTunes – Twitter
Want to spread the word about an emerging artist you love? Having a free tab on Abatab is great promotion, so feel free to let me know about your hidden gems at jeff[at]abatab.com. And I’ll send you a free tab of your choice from our catalogue just for the tip.
October marks our three-month anniversary! Thanks for being there from the start. See you next month!
